January, the month of new beginnings is coming to an end. Usually one of the most powerful, exciting times for me, starting fresh on a new year, this January rattled quickly along sending me spinning. I have not really felt the clarity and enthusiasm that usually starts the year.

A few things helping me move forward as I set goals and align my actions:

The Day Designer

I was fortunate to attend Stationery Academy {if you’re at all interested, go!} 3 years ago and am a loyal Whitney English fan. Her Day Designer, with inspiring quotes + an open spot to write in dinners each night, keep me rollin’, plus all the good design/work organization tools, keeps my days smoothly running.

Seth Godin’s marking blog

just google “seth” {it’s more fun than if I link it!}

I was skeptical, but his blog does pop up first. January started off with such a rush because I was quickly on a flight for a week-long trip in Vegas. While there I had the opportunity to hear Seth speak on making your company, product or brand a “purple cow” – something people stop, look at, and talk about. He’s highly inspirational, and way, way smart… example, you can google his first name and find him on the interspace. : )

Gwyneth Paltrow’s good eats

She’s gorg and smart, and tall and blond – some things we share some things are different, ha!  Santa left me her cook book in my stocking (well next to, it’s pretty big actually) and it has been such fun jumping into. It’s packed full of healthy ingredients and simple recipes that are easy to prepare and will grow to be the norm in my household- i.e. no recipe required.

Time away

I mentioned I was in Vegas on a work trip, this trip was 5 nights, 6 days. Not only did it seem like waaaayyyy too long for Vegas (if you’ve been, you know what I mean!) I was also a little concerned about being away from the Rory bug that long. But mamas out there, I think it was All Good – hi again Gwen! Having time away to be by yourself really helps you get back to who you are outside of a mama. It’s an incredible role to play, but I always want to hold true to the many other aspects of Mary Ellen that make me tick. Getting away helped me to feel ready to be the best mom I can be, because I could stop and focus on what makes-up me for a bit.

SO in the know

This daily news email, along with other online aps, are helping me stay connected. It is a priority for the year to read more, and especially news. Because, well, it is not usually full of color, design, and pretty images I have trouble concentrating – ehhh, too honest?! – but theSkimm is quite enjoyable and most important, quick, to read through each morning. Join the fun here.
